ORIENTAL BODYWORK

Oriental bodywork aims to restore and balance the flow of energy (Chi) throughout your body. It uses gentle hand and finger pressure along specific points and energy pathways (meridians) on your body to restore your body to full health. There are many forms of Oriental bodywork, but they all share a common foundation in Chinese Medicine. They simply differ in their use of specific techniques to balance your energy

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

ENERGY WORK

Energy work is based on the belief that everyone has a "life force", and that the body needs to sustain its balance for optimum health. Anytime you experience emotional or physical illness, it indicates that your life force has simply become unbalanced. I work directly with your energy field to restore balance and flow to your entire system. And once your energy field has been restored to full health, your body will follow.

Manual LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (Oncology)

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy aims to gently and rhythmically move the lymph through the body, especially swollen areas of the body, relieving pressure and enhancing the functioning of the immune system. As both a preventative and remedial technique, MLD can be used for a wide range of purposes including faster recovery from injury, reduction of Lymphedema for oncology patients.

REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet. Unlike other foot massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body. According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into your feet. Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for conditions such as allergies, headaches, and depression.

REIKI

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work that cleanses and balances the energy system in the body. During a session, I work directly with your energy field to remove blockages, detoxify your system, and restore your vital life force energy. Reiki utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between us. The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental or emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.

SWEDISH MASSAGE

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.

BELLY BLISS PRENATAL/POSTNATAL

Pregnancy and childbirth can be a beautiful and transformative experience, but it can also put a great deal of stress on a woman's body. Prenatal massage is designed to alleviate discomfort and promote relaxation during pregnancy, while postnatal massage can help new mothers recover and adjust to the changes that come with caring for a newborn. I use gentle and safe massage techniques to ensure the safety and comfort of both mother and baby in a tranquil and peaceful environment allowing my clients to feel calm and at ease throughout their massage sessions.

HOT STONE THERAPY

Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are placed at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.

SPORTS MASSAGE

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Designed to break up scar tissue. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function. Yoga or gym clothing needed as we will be doing lots of stretching.

HARMONY RESTORE HORMONAL BALANCE

Hormonal imbalances can lead to a wide range of physical and emotional symptoms, including fatigue, mood swings, weight gain, and insomnia. Hormonal balancing massage is designed to help restore balance to the body's endocrine system, promoting optimal well-being. During a hormonal balancing massage session, a combination of gentle massage techniques and essential oils are utilized to help stimulate the body's natural hormone production and regulate hormone levels. Targeting specific pressure points and areas of the body will alleviate symptoms associated with hormonal imbalances, including anxiety, depression, menstrual irregularities, and more. I work with each client to develop a customized treatment plan that is tailored to their unique needs and concerns. This may include recommendations for lifestyle changes and other holistic therapies that can help to support hormonal balance.

Massage FAQ

I try to anticipate questions you might have about services and provide the answers here. If you need additional information send email through contact box on website.

Photo ID for check-in

Photo ID is required upon check-in and needs to match the credit card being used.

Why do I need to provide a $30 deposit to hold my appointment?

A deposit is required to hold your appointment time when you book online or over the phone and will be subtracted from total price at time of service. Full refund is provided if cancellation is within 24 hours. You will not be refunded if no call/no show per the No Show Policy. This is a regular practice in most massage offices. The reason is to protect the therapist’s time slot from “no show” appointments. Time is very valuable and that time slot could have been used for another appointment. I understand that emergencies happen but please provide adequate advanced notice if you must cancel.

What if I am Nervous?

This is YOUR session. Speak up! Why is this so important? If you want anything changed: pressure, areas worked, position or if you are too hot or too cold … speak up! You will not hurt my feelings by asking for something that will make you more comfortable. I want this to be the best experience for you to relax and enjoy. Also, what you requested in one session may be different in another. If you had a full body massage last time you had a session, but this time you only want your back/neck/shoulders/arms worked, it’s perfectly fine to ask. You will enjoy your sessions so much more!

What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?

You will be required to fill out a health history form. Afterward, I will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed, and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. I may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition and to see if you have any presenting complaints. It is important to list all health concerns and medications so I can adapt the session to your specific needs without doing any harm. It is also important to list any allergies so I am aware if I need to use a different oil or lotion during the session.

Is tipping allowed? How much should I tip?

Yes, it’s customary, and the usual amount is 15 to 20 percent of the cost of the service or a fixed amount per hour of service. Tips are never expected, but appreciated. Gratuities are welcome not just for the obvious reason but also because they’re seen as a sign of gratitude for the therapist’s hard work. Of course, a small tip or no tip at all can also be a way to communicate dissatisfaction. Gratuities are an important part of almost all therapists’ compensation. If you were happy with your massage, you might leave a $15 gratuity for an hour massage, and if you considered it outstanding, you might leave $20.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

You should undress to the level you are comfortable. For a full body massage, most get completely undressed. However, if you will be more comfortable during the session if you leave your underwear on, that’s fine.I will work around the clothes you left on as best I can. If removing all your clothes makes you too nervous and unable to relax, then you are not getting the optimal benefit from the session. I will give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table.

Do I have to cover myself with a sheet or towel?

This is known as draping and depends on the therapist and in some cases, the law. The majority of therapists will insist on draping including myself.  Once you are undressed and on the table under the drape, I will only uncover the part of your body being worked on. The genitals (women and men) and breasts (women) will NOT be uncovered. If I am going to work on a woman’s abdomen, a second towel or sheet will be used to cover the breasts so the main sheet or towel can be moved to expose the abdomen.

What do I do during a massage treatment?

Make yourself comfortable. If I want you to adjust your position, I will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

How long will a massage treatment last?

The average full-body massage treatment lasts approximately one hour. A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 60 to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation. Always allow relaxation time before and after the session.

Will the massage hurt (Deep Tissue) ?

This depends on the type of massage and the depth of the strokes. A light, relaxing massage that doesn’t probe very deep into the muscles, shouldn’t hurt. With that being said, there is a ‘feels good’ hurt and an ‘ouch, stop it’ hurt. A good massage, even a really deep tissue massage, should always stay in the ‘feels good’ hurt range. Pain can be a sign that the muscle is possibly injured or inflamed and pressure should be adjusted. Also, pain can cause you to tighten up and negate the relaxing effects of the massage. The most effective and deepest massage always works with your body’s natural response, not against it.

How often should I get a massage?

“Some is better than none.”  What does that mean? Well, it varies from person to person. If you are just looking for some occasional relaxation, then a session every 3-6 weeks may be fine for you. However, if you are looking to address a specific condition, then it is recommended to go more often at first and then slowly taper down to a maintenance schedule. Sometimes more frequent 30-minute sessions can be effective until your goals are met and a maintenance schedule is in place.  Frequency of sessions should be discussed with your massage therapist after your treatment when he/she has a better hands-on understanding of your particular muscular issues.

Can I talk during my session?

Sure, if you’d like to talk go right ahead. The important thing to remember is that this treatment is all about you relaxing and enjoying the experience. Many therapists discourage talking in hopes that you will relax, let your mind float free and enter a state of massage bliss. In many instances, people may feel more relaxed starting off talking, and as the massage progresses, enter quiet states of relaxation. The important issue here is that there are times when you need to speak up. If I am doing anything to make you uncomfortable, you should let me know immediately. Also, let me know if you get too warm or too cold, if the room is too bright, or if the pressure needs to be changed (lighter or deeper). If something is not working for you – speak up! It’s OK!

Do I have to listen to whale calls or flutes during my massage?

No. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.) While many therapists play slower, quieter, ‘new age’ type music, you can choose to have different music or no music at all. Studies have shown that music at under 60 beats-per-minute has a calming, relaxing effect on the body and can enhance your experience. However, while this may be true, any music you like to listen to while you relax can be listened to while you get a massage. If it relaxes you and you enjoy it at home, why wouldn’t it do the same during your treatment? Ask me what music I have to offer.

How will I feel after my massage treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience a significant decrease or freedom from long-term aches and pains. Many feel a little slowed down for a short period and then notice an increase of energy, heightened awareness and increased productivity which can last for days. If you received a deep massage, you may be slightly sore the next day – much like a good workout at the gym. Sometimes a hot shower, or a soak in the tub can ease this soreness. After your session you should increase your water intake a bit. Just a glass or two more than normal is usually fine. This helps keep your body’s tissues hydrated and healthy.

How many sessions will I need?

Honestly, it's hard to say. Every person is unique and every condition is unique to each person. It may take one session or it may take several. We will talk more specifically about this after your first session after I had a chance to evaluate your body’s tissues.

When should I not get a massage?

In my opinion there are few conditions which would prevent you from enjoying massage. You should not book a massage if you have a fever, cold/flu, or contagious skin infection. That’s it. There are many other conditions in which I may need to adapt my techniques (i.e. arthritis or osteoporosis) or avoid an area completely (i.e. cuts or burns). With some conditions it is a good idea to get an approval from your physician before you receive massage (cancer, certain heart conditions, pregnancy). This doesn’t mean you can’t get massage. But its always better to err on the side of caution.
